FCC review pushed EchoStar to sell spectrum and abandon part of its 5G buildout
Management said the FCC review created the risk of license revocation and led EchoStar to sell a material amount of spectrum through the AT&T and SpaceX transactions. Following these deals, the company began abandoning and decommissioning portions of its 5G network in August 2025 and had no customer traffic on that network by November 15, 2025.
