Exact Sciences Acquisition Reshapes Diagnostics Segment
Abbott completed the $20.6 billion acquisition of Exact Sciences on March 23, 2026, funded primarily through $20.0 billion in newly issued long-term debt. Exact Sciences' results are now reported as 'Cancer Diagnostics' within the Diagnostic Products segment, contributing approximately $1.0 billion in net sales for the first six months of 2026, and driving Diagnostic Products segment growth of 42.3% in Q2 2026 (41.3% excluding FX).
Segment Performance Diverges
For the six months ended June 30, 2026, Medical Devices grew 8.0% excluding FX (led by double-digit growth in Electrophysiology +13.0%, Rhythm Management +10.9%, and Heart Failure +10.4%), and Established Pharmaceutical Products grew 8.9% excluding FX. In contrast, Nutritional Products declined 5.6% excluding FX due to lower volumes in adult and U.S. pediatric nutritionals.
Diabetes Care and CGM Momentum Continues
Diabetes Care sales increased 8.2% excluding FX in the first six months of 2026, driven by continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems, which totaled $4.1 billion versus $3.6 billion in the prior-year period, an 8.6% increase excluding FX. In May 2026, Abbott also secured a CE Mark for Libre Duo, its dual glucose-ketone biowearable sensor.
